Chandigarh: The Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Mann will tie the knot for the second time today. Mann, 48, got divorced with his wife in 2015. The Chief Minister has two children. Today he will be married to Dr Gurpreet Kaur. Mann’s mother, sister, relatives and some other guests will attend the wedding ceremony. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is also likely to attend the wedding.
All the government programs of Bhagwant Mann to be held today have been cancelled. According to the sources of Aam Aadmi Party, all the expenses of marriage will be borne by Bhagwant Mann himself. According to the English newspaper Indian Express, none of the MLAs had received the invitation till Wednesday evening. Some officers of CM’s office will be involved in this. Sources said that arrangements are being made for 80 guests. It is believed that the wedding will take place at 11 am.
Gurpreet Kaur, 32, is a doctor and has studied MBBS from Maharishi Markandeshwar University, Mullana, Ambala. She is the youngest of three sisters, her two sisters live in America and Australia. It is believed that this is an arranged marriage. It is being said that Bhagwant’s mother Harpal Kaur knows Gurpreet’s family.
According to the English newspaper Indian Express, people in Gurpreet’s village Pehowa know him as ‘Gopi’. A neighbor said, ‘Five days ago the family had left for Chandigarh, but we did not know that Gurpreet is getting married to the CM of Punjab. It is a proud moment for us that the CM of Punjab is going to be our son-in-law.
Mann’s mother Harpal has reached the CM residence from her native village Satoj. AAP’s chief spokesperson Malvinder Singh Kang said that Harpal and Mann’s sister Manpreet knew Gurpreet Kaur. He said, ‘The family is distant relatives. The bride’s family was in touch with the mother for a few years. CM’s mother was pressurizing him to remarry.’
This will be Bhagwant Mann’s second marriage, earlier he was married to Inderpreet Kaur, with whom he has two children. His daughter Seerat Kaur Mann, 21, and son Dilshan Mann, 17, had come from the US to attend Mann’s swearing-in ceremony on March 16 this year.
